The university hospital Rechts der Isar’s Department of Dermatology and Allergology is headed by Prof. Dr. med. Tilo Biedermann. The department has over 40 medical staff who are all specialists in various fields of medicine. The department belongs to the Rechts der Isar Hospital but is located in Schwabing hospital. The department has a skin cancer center certified by the German Cancer Society and care for affected patients from surgery to aftercare, or drug therapy. The department also consists of a certified Comprehensive Allergy Center (CAC) where diagnosis and treatment of all types of allergies are done. In the Competence Center for Inflammatory Skin Diseases, there are specialists who treat several thousands of patients every year (children and adults). Common diseases treated in the department of dermatology and allergology include Psoriasis and atopic eczema (atopic dermatitis). Their doctors of the department are also specialists in the Center for Chronic Wounds with adequate competence in treating leg ulcers of various causes.
The dermatological department has 74 beds in four wards, two operating theatres, and an intervention room. Every year, they care for about 30,000 patients in the outpatient department and about 4,600 inpatients and perform around 3,000 operations. The in-house dermato-histology unit controls and evaluates preparations under the microscope. Special laboratories for allergology, autoimmune diagnostics, histology, mycology, andrology, and venereal diseases are available for extensive diagnostic investigations. In addition, we have various laser therapy systems, phototherapeutic devices, X-ray radiation therapy devices, and a Doppler and color-coded duplex sonography device.
The Department of Dermatology and Allergology at the university hospital Rect der Isar is specialized in:
- Diagnosis and therapy of allergy-related disorders including anaphylactic shock in particular
- Diagnosis and treatment of contact allergies
- Medical advice on occupational dermatological issues.
- Comprehensive outpatient and inpatient treatment of all infectious diseases of the skin
- Treatment of sexually transmitted diseases.
- Diagnosis and treatment of all types and stages of skin cancer in collaboration with other departments.
- Surgical removal of tumors of the skin.
- Treatment of psoriasis, atopic dermatitis (eczema) and other chronic auto-immune skin diseases.
- Treatment of skin conditions in children.
- Diagnosis of photoallergies.
- Phlebology – diagnosis of vascular diseases
- Treatment of chronic wounds of various causes, eg venous and arterial leg ulcers, diabetic leg ulcers, necrotizing vascular inflammations and pyoderma gangrenosum.
