University Hospital Rechts der Isar

Head of the Department
Prof. Dr. Klaus Dietrich Wolff
Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
The university hospital Rechts der Isar’s Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery covers the entire spectrum of oral, maxillofacial surgery and plastic surgery at the highest clinical and scientific level. The department is directed by Prof. Dr. Klaus Dietrich Wolff. Among the team members are the extraordinaire for Dental Surgery and Implantology (Prof. Dr. med. Herbert Deppe), 4 experienced senior physicians, 3 physicians and 12 assistant doctors who work in a well-organized team to provide complete healthcare services for patients. Some of their team members are recipients of several prestigious science awards on several occasions. Clinic Director Prof. Wolff has been involved in the field of tumors and reconstructive facial surgery using innovative techniques like microvascular tissue transfer. The department follows the S3 guideline for the treatment of oral cancer nationally and internationally. Prof. Dr Klaus Dietrich Wolff is also the President of the European Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Prof. Herbert Deppe is the President of the German Society of Dental Implantology.
The clinic has 24 beds, three operating theatres and a large area with additional treatment rooms. Every year, the doctors carry out 1,900 inpatients and approximately 20,000 outpatient treatments using the latest technologies. Among other things, various laser systems, CAD / CAM printers (3D printer for individual implants for OR planning), high-performance microscopes and a modern DVT device (digital volume tomography for three-dimensional imaging) are also available.
In special cases, the doctors use extracorporeal perfusion of skin grafts. This system helps them make necessary reconstructions in difficult cases.
For the treatment of cleft lip and palate, they are one of only a few clinics in Europe to offer Naso-Alveolar Molding (NAM). This special technique narrows the cleft lip and palate even before the operation, facilitates the operation, improves the functional and aesthetic result and often reduces the need for follow-up operations. The department also offers technological intraoperative navigation and fluorescence-based surgery for the treatment of drug-associated pine necrosis (death of the jawbone).
