The Department of Orthopedics and Sports Orthopedics treat a broad spectrum of diseases of the musculoskeletal system, such as diseases of the bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, and tendons. The team is under the direction of Prof. Dr. med. Rüdiger and consists of over 20 doctors, specially trained nursing staff and a large physiotherapy department.
In addition to general orthopedics, they have other sub-departments such as joint replacement (knee and hip), change of artificial joints, tumor orthopedics, foot orthopedics, joint-preserving orthopedics (especially hip), septic orthopedics and pediatric orthopedics. With its highly-specialized teams, the Department of Orthopedics and Sports Orthopedics guarantees a high standard in diagnostics and therapy. The department also has many years of experience in both surgical and non-operative (conservative) treatment at the highest level.
Every year, the doctors implant more than 1,000 prostheses in their certified endoprosthetic center for maximum care (EndoTUM). This includes an average of 392 implantations on the knee joints, 347 implantations on the hip joints, 154 medical reviews of orthopedics on the hip joint. 129 implantations of allosteric bone replacement. Their Musculoskeletal Tumor Center (MSTZ) is certified as a member of the oncological center and has established itself as a trailblazer throughout Germany.
The Department of Orthopedics and Sports Orthopedics at the university hospital Recht der Isar treats more than 1,800 inpatients and 8,900 outpatients annually. The department consists of state-of-the-art ultra-clean operating theatres to reduce the risk of infection and is also equipped with state-of-the-art surgical techniques. There are 44 beds for inpatient-stay at their inpatient clinic, and two outpatient clinics with special consultation hours.
The Department of Orthopedics and Sports Orthopedics at the university hospital Recht der Isar is specialized in:
