About University Hospital Leipzig

University Hospital Leipzig is a tertiary care hospital and is in cooperation with the Faculty of Medicine of Leipzig University which was established in 1409, making it the second oldest university hospital in Germany. The hospital is composed of 29 clinics, 8 institutes, and 7 main departments and has one of the most developed and advanced structural and technical infrastructures in all of Europe with over 1,450 beds where 56,591 inpatients and 374,020 outpatients are treated every year. The hospital also consists of fully equipped and specialized intensive care and emergency units where 32,000 patients are treated annually and a remarkably experienced medical staff of 4,345 employees, over 700 of which are specialized physicians. The hospital is certified by the German Cancer Society for its success and achievements in the field of various cancerous tumors. The University Hospital Leipzig is also a teaching center for students and trainees as 3,230 students of medicine, dentistry and pharmacy are taught and trained here.
